Albert H. Schmitt Family Farms has been part of Bagatelle Road for generations. Albie Schmitt comes from a family that has farmed here since 1853. Dottie, whose family name is Harbes, also comes from more than a century of Long Island farming.
Together, Albie and Dottie built the business that visitors know today, and their three children and grandchildren remain part of its continuing story.

The original crop at 6 Bagatelle Road was potatoes. When the Long Island Expressway cut through the farm and development grew around it, the Schmitt family kept farming. A small greenhouse operation expanded over time into today's garden center, with annuals, perennials, hanging baskets, shrubs, vegetables, and more.
